ComPosing Books rests on my practice as a librarian, drawing on library-specific activities such as collection development, curating library art shows, developing adult programming showcasing art, photography, music and dance (often as part of the same program) and my creative writing experience.

The watercolor paintings take an interdisciplinary approach to organizing information by bringing book titles together or “composing” them. The visually rendered book spines, which are representative of the book itself, engage readers in the activity of exploring a subject with proximate books. ComPosing Books can be experienced as a thematic art show with constituent artworks united by the medium of watercolor.

Just as one learns about books by reading newspapers, book reviews and magazines or listening to author interviews, ComPosing Books provides an alternative channel for exploring books and subject areas by using book titles and bibliographic information, which appears on their spines.
